Cerro Torre - Argentina, Patagonia by acseven Cerro Torre - Argentina, Patagonia by acseven

After almost 3 hours of hiking with all the gear on our backs, we were presented with this dramatic sunset, with clouds burning up almost like the mountains were spewing lava.

This is a 7 vertical exposure stitched panorama, each built off a 3 exposure HDR.

jesh... 21 shots were taken to take that beauty down?... don't u think you could have gone with the wider angle lens to eliminate some of the post processing? All tho 16mm is kinda wide already...
also, did u do everything manually or used some kind of hardware for the shooting besides just the tripod?

Hi zoomzoom, thanks for your comments! I would guess that I could manage it by choosing the most balanced or underexposed 7 shots I had, but the HDR versions off of Lightroom's merge were pretty usable so I went with those into Photoshop for the panorama setup. 16mm (which was the focal length I was shooting with) was very narrow for the impressive skyscape. This was the key for me - the most significant part of the image is the sky and the photograph doesn't do justice to the real event, which was magnificent. I have other single shots that came out ok, but those are quite different from this and probably more common compositions one can see on other photos of this location.

On site it was all manual, but I'm kind of used to that with panoramas.

The only thing this particular panorama needed were some fine alignment corrections in Photoshop, as the photomerge wasn't completely successful on automatically leveling the scene.
